Too commercial! What listeners think about presentations.

I’ve been back in the "business as usual" mode for a while now, but the EC Congress which paralleled the European Coatings SHOW refuses to leave me alone. Along with David Sykes of the PRA, UK, I compiled the programme on the basis of the abstracts that were submitted – as always.

Nature – once more showing off

I have to admit, I am a little jealous of nature´s way to invent new things. How nature is dealing with complex molecules to solve problems in a playfully way. I really like the concept to have an eye for small and hard to discover details in nature in order to find solutions for our lives. Let´s try this concept of creating ideas with the example of a carnivorous plant.

Innovation at the European Coatings SHOW and CONGRESScentred principally around the  consolidation of some recent technical breakthroughs together with incremental improvements in performance and functionality across all types of formulation ingredient. Only occasionally did we see examples bordering on radical change.

Sugar based raw materials – a charming solution!

At the moment the media is discussing the historically low oil price and related costs for raw materials.
All of us are expecting the moment in which this advantageous situation will change into the contrary again.

Tension is rising: who is going to win the European Coatings AWARD 2015?The best paper presented at the European Coatings CONGRESS in Nuremberg on 20 and 21 April will once again be honoured with an attractive trophy and prize money. And it will afterwards be published in the European Coatings JOURNAL.

Should the reduction in the price of oil impact technology development in the Coatings Industry?

Will the rout in the oil market prompt the Coatings industry to drag its feet when it comes to reducing carbon footprint? Greenpeace has a message here.

The global coatings industry: The best is yet to come!

Recently I attended the Coating Summit 2015 – the global strategy and networking forum for senior coatings executives. These senior executives from the global coatings industry agreed that it was an attractive industry which offered huge promise - especially in high-growth markets - and plenty of opportunities. However back home meeting people within the European coatings industry I heard, that this view might be too optimistic.

How did you come to choose a coatings career?

Whenever I do interviews with industry professionals, I like to ask them how they came to take up a career in the coatings world. It’s funny how different the answers are. Only recently, I met an ambitious young man at a coatings company supplying the graphic arts industry.
