“Green Marketing“ – only a buzz word?

"Green Marketing” – this buzz word sounds good. It sounds like sustainability, environmental awareness, doing the right thing. While collecting topics for the American Coatings Show 2016 Daily, someone came up with the idea to discuss "Green Marketing” in one of the issues. I happily accepted the suggestion, but then I started asking myself: "What exactly is "Green Marketing” in the first place?

Sustainability is the new alibi for killing environment

Reading other people's opinion makes me rethink my liberal view on some things. This time I touch the word sustainability again.

Examples of eco-efficiency and, occasionally, eco-effectiveness at the European Coatings SHOW and CONGRESS

Do we lose our private values at the entrance door of our company?

To think about how to spend the money we earned through our work is one of our first world problems. A lot of people in this world don’t even have enough money to buy things that satisfy the basics needs. I think, it is therefore an ethical necessity to act socially responsible. Some companies are in a higher league when it comes to sustainability

For too many corporations, Life Cycle Analyses and the increasing amounts of environmental reporting that we see in Annual Reports are simply bolt-on business-as-usual activities which do not impact overall corporate thinking and culture, nor do they get to the heart of the issue. AkzoNobel and BASF are coatings companies in a higher league.

A new angle on sustainablity: the impact of diversity

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been making a number of statements recently about its findings concerning climate change. This learned international organisation has concluded that the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere has grown to levels not seen for 3 million years and that about half of cumulative anthropogenic CO₂ emissions between 1750 and 2010 have occurred in the last 40 years.
The IPCC’s theme is not new but the language used has turned from one of finding a corrective solution to one of problem mitigation.

No management without measurement: an imperative for those committed to sustainable development

We have yet to see many of the sustainable development ideas available to the Coatings Industry actively commercialised. That may seem a rather harsh statement which does not recognise what may be going on under the surface (sorry for the pun). The Sustainable Innovation Award organised by the British Coatings Federation signals the industry’s progress to date and provides some directions for future action and investment.
