Chemical manufacturer Oxea has announced that it is expanding its product portfolio by offering a broader range of higher alcohols. For this purpose, The company invested in additional hydration capacities at the Oberhausen site in Germany. In the third quarter of 2012, the product "nheptanol” will be commercially available, followed by "3-methyl butanol”, "2-methyl butanol” and "n-pentanol”. Higher alcohols are, among others, also required for the production of varnish, paint and lubricant additives or are used as special solvents in the pharmaceutical industry.

"With our new products, we are meeting the globally increasing demand for higher alcohols,” said Dr. Christoph Balzarek, global marketing manager for amines & oxo specialties at Oxea. Therefore, increasing the hydrogenation capacities in Oberhausen is an important part of the company’s strategy to expand into attractive growth markets.
