AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals is to increase dimethylether (DME) production capacity at its Rotterdam plant in the Netherlands to 45,000 tons a year. According to Ton Pichel, business manager of AkzoNobel DME, the additional capacity will strengthen the company’s position in the European DME market and will allow the company to grow with its customers both in and outside Europe. The DME plant in Rotterdam, which is capable of producing 20,000 tons a year, opened in the 1990s. The recently announced expansion in capacity will become available in Q4 2012 and is based on existing technology.
