Dow completes MDI expansion in Portugal

Thursday, 28 May 2009

Dow’s newly expanded MDI plant in Portugal started production. It is the company’s third MDI production facility in Europe.

Dow Polyurethanes’ newly expanded diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) plant in Estarreja, Portugal, successfully started production. The world-scale facility will provide both polymeric and crude MDI. The expansion, which was announced in 2006, was completed with no interruptions in customer service. MDI is a raw material used in the production of rigid polyurethane foam and polyurethane elastomers, with end-use markets such as home, commercial and industrial foam insulation, as well as refrigeration, appliances, and coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.

Apart from Portugal, Dow operates two further MDI plants in Europe which are located in the Netherlands and in Germany. Source: MS ClipArt
