Martin Cellerier described the printing inks market as a story of "decline and survival”.

More than 70 printing inks experts are attending the 10th EuPIA Annual Conference in Dublin/Ireland. On 14 and 15 March, 2013, industry leaders define strategies to stay competitive and successful in a challenging business environment, such as shrinking markets and digital printing. In recent years the printing inks market struggled and had to face declines in almost all regions across Europe. Compared to 2011, total volumes declined by 4.1 % to 1,095,000 tonnes, as Martin Cellerier, Chairman of EuPIA’s Statistics Working Group stated. The largest decrease was recorded in the publication inks segment (-6.4 %), while packaging inks only dropped by 0.2 %. However, exports contributed positively in the period (+ 6.6 %). Especially the emerging markets in Eastern and Southeastern Europe show positive growth potential, whereas the mature markets of Western Europe are showing negative growth rates.
