In an optimistic atmosphere, the 13th meeting of the Asian Paint Industry Council (APIC) took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 2 November 2009. The meeting gathered representatives of paint manufacturers associations of Australia, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam as well as invited guests of IPPIC (International Paint & Printing Ink Council) and CEPE. What became clear during the meeting is that the Asian paint industry is slowly recovering from the global economic crisis. Several speakers reported modest growth rates compared to 2008. Obviously, the Asian paint companies also put a lot of effort on environmental and regulatory issues. So green labels, low VOC, eco-friendly products as well as REACH and GHS were much talked about topics at the meeting.
