The Covid19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the industry, with the paint and coatings industry being no exception. The containment measures are causing a significant decline in industrial coatings. The situation looks better for architectural coatings, which are stable and even show a slight increase in sales. This is mainly due to the DIY sector as many customers used the time during and after the lockdown for DIY projects in their apartments, houses or gardens.

The companies' sales revenue growth YoY (EUR) - paints and coatings:

  • Masco: +14,0%
  • Nippon Paint: +5,1%
  • Sherwin-Williams: -1,4%
  • Jotun: -4,4%
  • RPM: -9,5%
  • Akzo Nobel: -18,5%
  • PPG: -23,5%
  • Kansai Paint: -26,4%
  • BASF Coatings: -40.6%
  • Axalta: -42,5%
  • Asian Paints: -46.3%

The detailed results of the TOP 11 companies’ sales in the second quarter and first half of 2020 are now available as part of a new multiclient market intelligence program introduced by Chem Research and entitled:

"The TOP 11 Global Paint and Coating Producers, Q2 and Half-Year-2020 Sales Analysis, A Benchmarking Study."
