While epoxy based adhesives have successfully been used for many years by the industry, research was undertaken to further improve those products regarding aspects of processability and finalperformance.

Adhesives used for wind energy rotor blades manufacturing have to fulfill a wide spectrum of requirements. While epoxy based adhesives have successfully been used for many years by the industry, research was undertaken to further improve those products regarding aspects of processability and final performance. Indeed, during rotor blade manufacturing, the application of the adhesives has to be rigorously controlled via the rheological properties and the cure kinetics. Also, when the blade is in service, it will be subject for a time line of twenty years and more to demanding loads. Thus, those adhesives have to be designed for high fatigue resistance. A presentation at the European Coatings Conference "Adhesives for wind and solar technology" on 22 and 23 November, 2011 in Berlin will review the critical requirements on the adhesives and demonstrates the performance level which can be achieved by recently developed new epoxy based adhesives.
