Hydroxyl content

Dear Sirs,
I am msc.student. My thesis is about synthesis of acrylic polyol resins. I should measure
hydroxyl content of resins, but with standard test methods(i.e.ASTM D1957-86)I haven't got good result, because the resin precipitates in the stage of titration with methanolic KOH(0.5 N KOH solution in methanol).

thank you.

Greeting; Your problem is the shifting Solubility Parameter as you make the system more ionic. Try adding DMF or DMSO as part of the solvent mix. The alternative is to obtain a a "ladder" of resins (commercial) at varying hydroxyl content to make an IR -OH peak standard for spectroscopic determination.
