Concept of CPVC

Hello!
Is there anybody who can explain the concept of CPVC?
I know the original meaning of CPVC(critical pigment volume concentration), but I don't know how to measure or calculate the CPVC for each formulation?
I'll appreciate if you explain the above.

The CPVC is the limit, where you don´t have any free binder/emulsion between the individual pigment- and filler- particles.
V(pf)= Volume of all pigments, filler/extender and perhaps cristallin inhibitors
OAV(pf)= Oil absorption value (of the blend of pigments, filler/extender and perhaps cristallin inhibitors)
CPVC [%] = V[pf] x 100 x (V[pf] + OAV[pf] x 0.93-1)-1

Hi,
At the CPVC the gloss show a minimum value.
a good way to find this point is to make on the same card several drawdowns of paints which CPV increases: below CPVC the gloss decreases after CPVC the gloss tend to increase...
This works pretty good with solventborne, but it is formulation dependant with waterborne (may be due to wetting agents /surfactants)

we use 2 methods to determine the cpvc.
1. Gilsonite Test
2. Film Tension
