any specific resin to coat on elastic rubber?
i tried vinyl copolymer: flexibility is fine but adhesion test is simply bad. any idea how to tackle the problem?

Coating elastic rubber materials is a tricky operation. Generally speaking, one should try to match the chemical nature of the coating to that of the material to be coated. To do this one needs to know the approximate composition of the copolymers (e.g. ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer) and try to use a related vinyl copolymer.
It is advisable to clean the surface with a solvent (ethanol, isopropanol or acetone) before coating, and to blow off any residues with oil-free air.
To improve the adhesion it is advisable to add silane compounds as an adhesion promoter in proportions of a few percent. The optimum content should be determined by experiment. Suitable silanes are vinyl and methacrylic silanes as well as mercapto-silanes. Another possibility is to apply a silane primer. For example, a 2% solution of a silane of the above-mentioned type in e.g. alcohol can be applied. After evaporation this results in a very thin film which acts as an adhesion promoter.

In the automotive industry most of EPDM profiles are lacquered using higly formualted polyurethaneslso, maybe these types are also suitable, but do not forget there is a strong interaction between rubber recipe and coating adhesion, especially additives will make or detroy the adhesion !!
for adhesion EPDM you wll need pretreatment
1) always clean profiles before treating
2) corona (is the most effective to obtain the best adhesion)
or apply a TPO primer.
3) lacquer is applied by spray, PU lacquer is crosslinked using or polyaziridine or modified polycarbodiimide crosslinker.
for more inmformation check Permuthane division of company STAHL part of AVECIA ( former ZENECA SPECIALTISH)

there are supplying lacquer in Europe /USA and Asia region.
