We are preparing long oil alkyd resins and using polyester waste approx.16% as source of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. We have the problem of haze in end product. Please guide us that how we can remove haze from final product.

Dear Sadia,
I think, you can to filtrate the monoglycerides step and then going ahead with the process.

I think you can first check with Oil (is it very clear) as a quality control step. Even if you find haziness you have to give me the process which you are using. As there is chances as polymeristaion is not over as desired.

There are many reasons for the haziness of Alkyd resin.
1) Type/Quality of the oil
2) Molar ratio for dibasic alcohol against acid portion, with only EG you can not make a good Alkyd.
3) Percentage of oil in your formulation.
4) Process condition(Fusion or solvent process
5) Final acid number
So revert back with all above informations and I am sure I can solve your problem.

Hello,
I am starter in production of alkyd resin. I want to produce short oil alkyd.
I use SOFA, benzoic acid, penta and phythalic anhydride for this purpose.

But at the end of the reaction haziness is observed.

Please help
