Anticorrosive coatings

| 14. Nov 2018 |

Not headed for the scrap heap

Jumping into a car and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds. There is no greater pleasure when driving a sports car. Especially, if you can do it every summer. Is it not amazing how the underbody does not fall off and rust does not start showing its ugly face on the bonnet! You can thank the finish for that. This also applies to coatings for wind turbines, ships, bridges, window frames and other metal objects. Thank goodness corrosion does not move as fast as a car! But what is corrosion in the first place? And what are the demands that the various paints and, by extension, rust protection must meet? This seminar will also include a discussion on what is meant by appropriate surface treatment, before you drive off in a good mood.

Your key-learnings:

  • How does corrosion occur?
  • What types of corrosion are there?
  • What surface preparation is necessary for an endurable coating?
  • Which ingredients does a coating comprise and what are their roles?
  • What are the current trends in corrosion protection coatings?
  • What distinguishes waterborne from solvent-born systems?
  • How do self-healing coatings work?

Your lecturer:

Dr. Peter Plagemann,
