Your Speakers: Dr Volker Schmitt & Dr Janine Siekman // Kronos, Germany

Dr Janine Siekman studied chemistry and wrote her PhD thesis at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Her research focus was on calcium phosphate nano particles. In 2009 she joined the product development department of KRONOS INTERNATIONAL INC. as a project leader and since 2019 she is the director of the product innovation department. Together with her development team she is responsible for innovative titanium dioxide products.

Dr Volker Schmitt studied industrial chemistry at the Julius–Maximilian University in Bavaria and received his PhD on a topic involving titanium-sulfur chemistry in 1988. In the same year, more than 30 years ago, he started at KRONOS INTERNATIONAL INC. in the technical service department. He worked in the coatings lab and continued with technical service in the KRONOS export countries, mainly in the Far East and South America. Since 2019 he is head of the technical service department for Europe. Apart from giving technical support to customers, his activities are also strongly focused on supporting the pigment innovation department to develop new grades and implement them into the market.
