Modern approaches to matting

23 September 2020|

Appearance Matters

Modern industrial coatings require the highest standards for performance and quality. In addition to their protective function many coatings require matting agents to enhance the aesthetic appeal to the customer. There is a definite trend from semi-gloss towards deep matte and nature-look finishes. The matting effect is determined by a wide range of parameters including particle type, size and morphology as well as binder type, drying and curing conditions. Controlling these parameters is essential to meet your customers’ specific needs.

 Your key learnings

  • Different ways of matting
  • Which physical and chemical mechanisms are involved?
  • Production of matting additives and how to control the quality
  • What is the influence of the paint matrix?
  •  How to control the effect from the formulation point of view?
  • What happens in different application methods?
