Marine coatings

18 November 2020

How to protect steel constructions against corrosion

The marine environment is one of the most demanding challenges for coatings. Parts of the constructions are either permanently or temporary immersed in seawater, while other areas are in the splash or atmospheric zone with additional threads from wet-dry exposure, mechanical loads and UV radiation. Ships, off-shore platforms, floating structures or windmills all need protection in this harsh environment to maintain long-term structural health of the installations. This seminar will look at the environment and the corresponding loads and how to protect the constructions against them.

Your key-learnings

  • Understanding the structures to be protected: Off-shore platforms, ships, wind mills
  • Corrosion in the maritime environment
  • Active and passive anti-corrosive measures
  • Typical damages, sources and how to trouble shoot
  • Maintenance and repair in the marine environment
