10.00 - 11.40h  OPENING & PLENARY SESSION
Chairman: David Helsby, RadLab AG, CH

Since our last successful conference in Vienna our Industry as well as all others has seen some dramatic changes in our business world. Companies have had to be flexible and focused to cope with not only the downturn in the market but also the huge and irregular fluctuations of raw material prices and currency. Added to this has been the increased interest in sustainable technologies, the safety of our commercial products and the contamination of packaged food stuffs. In our Plenary Session we will give a professional view of how a company has coped with these changes, followed by a review of our own radiation curing market world wide and a follow up on Radtech´s efforts to prove the safety of energy curing products.

10.00 - 10.25h

Nestlé packaging safety initiative
Dr. Hervé Simian, Nestlé, CH

In the past years, many issues (ITX, Bisphenol A, 4-methyl benzophenone) were linked to packaging materials. This has triggered a lot of attention from the public and the authorities on the quality and the safety of packaging materials that the food industry is using. Consequently, the packaging supply chain had to adapt rapidly and to collaborate much openly with the food industry to bring to the market place packaging materials that satisfy the needs of demanding and cautious consumers. This new environment requires that packaging materials are considered more systematically in risk assessments and that analytical strategies are in place within the whole value chain to secure relevant and dedicated surveillance plans. The Nestlé strategy will be presented with a specific focus on printing inks and radiation curing technology.
