Sulfosuccinamate surfactants are widely used as primary emulsifiers, dispersants for pigment production and surfactants for higher alkaline systems. However, little information exists on the application of sulfosuccinamates as primary emulsifiers in latex synthesis for architectural coatings and construction applications.
In the experiments described in an article in the December 2009 issue of "Asia Pacific Coatings Journal", a sulfosuccinamate was evaluated as a primary emulsifier in latex synthesis for architectural coatings and construction applications. The performance of this surfactant was compared to that of other industry standard surfactants and it was found to improve pigment binding cabability, yielding better wet scrub resistance in architectural coatings and enhanced alkaline stability in construction applications.
