ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications, has approved two new standards that cover architectural coating touch-up properties and ink stainblocking of paint systems.
The first new standard, ASTM D7489, "Practice for Evaluating Touch-Up Properties of Architectural Coatings Under Various Environmental Conditions", covers variations in colour, gloss and sheen that impact the touch-up capacity of a paint.
The second new standard, ASTM D7514, "Test Method for Evaluating Ink Stainblocking of Architectural Paint Systems by Visual Assessment", represents a compilation and synthesis of methods that are currently being used to evaluate stainblocking. This will help to assess the capability of architectural coatings for blocking ink stains from bleeding through to a topcoat.
