BASICS OF CORROSION FUNDAMENTALS AND NOVEL APPROACHES |
You want to bring yourself up to date? Not only to replenish your theoretical background of corrosion fundamentals, but also to immerse your knowledge about novel approaches in the field of corrosion science? At the Pre-Conference Tutorial corrosion principles, corrosion protective effects of coatings and the basics of new developments will be worked out to enhance the understanding of the high level technical presentations of this conference.
The exclusive four-hour tutorial is limited to a maximum of 30 participants to guarantee an intense exchange of information. Specifically, it will address the following topics:
- Fundamentals and the electrochemical nature of corrosion, including corrosion phenomena and their appearance
- Specific aspects of corrosion protective coatings, reviewed in terms of:
- Principal coating behaviour and protection effects
- Determination of investigated protection performance
- Testing methods
New approaches for protection enhancement by smart coatings, thereon some examples of new protection concepts like:
- Self-healing
- Triggered inhibitor release
- Alternative pigment effects in smart coatings
Please note: In order to ensure a creative and intensive atmosphere, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 30.

The Lecturer
Dr. Peter Plagemannis head of the working group "Corrosion and Electrochemistry" at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technologies and Applied Materials Research, IFAM, in Bremen, Germany. After his studies of Chemical Engineering at the University of Dortmund he worked at the Laboratory for Corrosion Protection in Iserlohn and performed his PhD-thesis in the field of corrosion science at RWTH Aachen. After a one year postdoc position at CNRS Paris/France on the topic of enhanced electrochemical methods for corrosion investigation he started working at IFAM. One focus of his current work is the characterization and enhancement of corrosion protective coatings. He gives lectures at the University of Bremen and the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven in corrosion sciences and interfacial technologies.
