European Coatings Conference
"Medical Coatings and Adhesives II"
11 - 12 June 2009 / Berlin, Germany
Good adhesion, bad adhesion
For medical devices the ultimate goal is to create surfaces, which inhibit the attachment of "bad" cells or molecules, preventing dangerous infections. But in the case of surgical implants the promotion of "good" cell growth is the goal, while infections have to be avoided simultaneously. Vast research activities are currently being conducted to achieve these goals, with specifically designed coatings systems or specific surface treatments. The adhesive research is concerned with a similar problem: How can biological materials of tissues effectively yet biocompatibly be glued together, allowing the attachment of implants to cell materials or the repair of tissues defects with special adhesives?
Focusing on current developments in raw materials and technologies the second European Coatings CONFERENCE on "Medical coatings and adhesives" will provide you with up to date information and ideal network opportunities. The conference will present 12 high-level technical papers, given by invited international experts, on topics such as
- Functional adhesives
- Porous pressure sensitive adhesives
- Self-sterilising coatings
- Biocompatible polymers
The conference addresses R&D managers of coatings raw materials producers, coatings formulators, and end users across Europe and beyond.
On the day before the main event the conference will additionally host the pre-conference tutorial "Bio-adhesion to medical devices" enabling conference delegates to acquire a profound base knowledge on chemical and physical effects that are at work, when "the race for the surface" between microorganisms and body cells to adhere to artificial surfaces sets in.
See you in Berlin!
