"New Concepts for Anti-Corrosive Coatings"

Corrosion is responsible for the failure of many systems and structures. Unchecked it can result in excessive maintenance and repair as well as system downtime and product contamination. The problem is not a small one: Studies have recently confirmed that the cost due to corrosion problems amounts to 3 to 4% of the Gross Domestic Product of industrialized countries. And although primarily associated with metallic materials, in fact all material types are susceptible to degradation. Like taxes, corrosion is something we hope to avoid, but ultimately it is something we must learn to deal with. It will always be necessary to build transportation structures and constructions in corrosive environments. Climate changes due to global warming and the greenhouse effect are likely to produce even more corrosive conditions in the future, because higher temperatures accelerate corrosion, and greater concentrations of carbon dioxide will increase carbonation rates and the acidity of rainfall. Therefore, there is an urgent need for innovative materials, better methods of investigation, and improved repair techniques in order to face known troubles as well as problems not yet identified.

This is why the European Coatings Conference "New Concepts for Anti-Corrosive Coatings" focuses on novel, not yet commercially established materials and technologies for high performance anti-corrosive coatings in industrial and marine applications. 16 invited high-level presentations by international speakers, representing globally leading companies and academic institutes, provide the opportunity to learn about new innovative developments in corrosion protection including conductive polymers, self-assembled layers, protective biopolymers and self-healing "intelligent" coatings.

The main conference is divided into the following four sessions:

The conference will additionally host the pre-conference tutorial "Corrosion Fundamentals" enabling conference delegates to acquire a profound base knowledge on electrochemistry, corrosion types as well as established anti-corrosion concepts.
