EUROPEAN COATINGS CONFERENCES
Programme 2010

Packaging coatings · 12-13 October 2010

Functional, barrier and non-barrier coatings cover a broad spectrum
of materials that are coated onto paper, metal and plastic to protect
the materials inside and/or to enable the substrate to act as a
suitable package for its content. Each application has its special
challenges. This conference will provide you with latest technical
developments in can coatings, flexible packaging, food contact
coatings as well as non-food coatings. Find out about novel raw
materials, new functionalities and enhanced performances.
Pre-conference tutorial Not familiar with packaging coatings yet? “Fundamentals on
packaging coatings” will familiarise you with the basics of can
coatings and packaging coatings. The tutorial aims to make you
an expert, and to enable you to follow the top-level presentations
during the main conference easily. The tutorial will explain to
you the basic conceptions and chemistries that are at work in
packaging coatings.

NEW! European Coatings SYMPOSIUM
Modern coatings for plastics · 29 October 2010 in Düsseldorf

They are still notoriously difficult – when it
comes to coatings and coating processes,
plastic parts, with their low surface energy
and their often complicated shape, pose some
of the hardest challenges. This conference
provides an overview of the most recent
developments in this field, ranging from
new coatings raw materials, to new coatings
systems to new surface modifications that
are more than a pre-treatment. For the
first time this conference takes place in
Düsseldorf, Germany contemporaneously
with the K 2010, the world leading trade
fair for the plastics and rubber industry. An
excellent opportunity to get more mission
critical information in less time.

Smart coatings VI · 9-10 November 2010

Smart coatings are often referred to as structured coatings which
provide additional benefits by giving an appropriate response
to outside conditions. Much talked about are self-healing, antifingerprint
and anti-ice coatings, to name only a few. Apparently the
attention for these materials is still on the rise – not only in academic
circles but also in the industry. Attendees will get an overview of
current developments for smart coatings.
Pre-conference tutorial New approaches from basic research offer a variety of possibilities
for the development of functional "smart coatings". On the other
hand there is clearly a high demand for intelligent surface solutions
that are economically interesting. In "Basics on smart coatings"
current research activities will be presented. The basic phenomena
and possible applications will be discussed in order to give the
appropriate background for the conference.
Lecturer: Dr. Volkmar Stenzel, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing
Technology and Applied Materials Research (IFAM), Germany

Polyurethanes for high performance coatings VI · 7-8 December 2010

There is still no end in sight for the continuing success story of modern
polyurethane coatings formulations. On a very high performance
level, important improvements in PUR coatings for most demanding
applications are constantly being researched and marketed. Yet
higher performance, cost reduction and environmental and legislative
compliance constitute the key drivers of these developments.
Thus, VOC-free yet high performing waterborne systems as well as
coatings containing no free isocyanates are being put forward. This
conference gathers PUR coating developers and users to learn about
and scrutinize the latest technical developments in the field.
Pre-conference tutorial Not a polyurethane expert yet? Our tutorial "Fundamentals on polyurethane
coatings" aims to make you one, and to enable you to follow
the top-level presentations during the main conference competently.
The tutorial will explain to you the basic conceptions and chemistries
that are at work in polyurethane coatings- in solventborne, waterborne
or radiation curing systems, for the most important applications.
Lecturer: Ian Rimmer, Huntsman Polyurethanes, United Kingdom and Simone Waddington, Dow Europe GmbH, Switzerland
