Waterborne versus high solids?

Thursday, 24 February 2011

Waterborne or high solids - mutually exclusive or possible one by one, or is a combination possible?

Are researchers spoilt for choice while substituting the solventborne technology? Is it a one way decision in favour or against waterborne or high solids? Dr. Marie Bleuzen, The Dow Chemical Company, Group Leader Architectural Coatings in France and Dr. Jørgen Hansen, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints, R&D Manager Woodcare in Sweden and Denmark show two different opinions in the latest EC-Editors Blog. Marie splits both technologies, while Jørgen shows that in the case of wood care a combination is well possible. What experience might other readers have? Is a combination with different substrates possible or absolutely impossible for special performances?
