ASTM standard provides method for testing acrylate resin volatiles
Tuesday, 20 December 2011
The new paint standard allows seeing the volatiles level from various monomers and oligomers used in a formulation and listing emissions information on material safety data sheets.
ASTM International launched the new standard for measuring volatiles from UV-curable acrylate resins - "ASTM D7767: test method to measure volatiles from radiation curable acrylate monomers, oligomer, and blends and thin coatings made from them”. This test method allows listing emissions information on material safety data sheets. Companies using acrylate raw materials for UV-curable blends for hardcoats, overprint varnishes, digital inks and other applications will now be able to see the volatiles level from the various monomers and oligomers used in a formulation, since the volatiles data may be different for the same material from two different suppliers. The standard also provides the necessary specifications to repeatably and reproducibly measure volatiles from the raw materials.
