The "Pegasus" project was part of a long line of developments within the automotive industry aimed at decreasing lead times, reducing costs and improving flexibility of manufacturing. The concept was to bring different companies together in a pool, communicating with each other and customers, and acting as a single supplier. A consortium of 21 small and medium size companies worked together to integrate engineering processing and materials technologies for the European automotive sector. The research was partly funded by the European Commission. The role of DSM Powder Coating Resins was to develop a powder coating for the plastic parts of the reference car. The main challenges (powder adherence, adhesion of the coating film, durability, dimensional properties and cure characteristics) and possible solutions will be presented at the EUROPEAN COATINGS CONFERENCE "Automotive coatings" on 24 and 25 November in Berlin.
