Construction chemicals: regulatory requirements summarised
Tuesday, 29 November 2011
Construction chemicals have to fulfill the complex European chemical legislation as well as the Construction Products Regulation.
Construction chemicals are typically mixtures of substances (in liquid, paste or powder form) which are applied on the construction site. The cross-border trade of construction products within the European internal market has traditionally not been as commonplace. National markets have often obstacles preventing construction products from being efficiently commercialised. In order to be legally placed in the European market, construction chemicals have to fulfill not only the very complex European chemical legislation, composed mainly by REACH and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation, but also the Construction Products Regulation, published in 2011, replacing the Construction Products Directive laying down the harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products. Elisa Setién, European Federation for Construction Chemicals (EFCC), will present a paper on regulatory requirements for construction chemicals at the European Coatings Conference Construction Chemicals on 13 and 14 December, 2011 in Berlin.
