Technology improves the stability of dry-mix mortars

Functionalised calcium aluminate cement (CAC) has been developed with the aim to stabilise the mortar reactivity over time and to provide protection against the effects of humidity during storage.
In order to improve the shelf life of dry-mix mortars, a new functionalised calcium aluminate cement (CAC) has been developed aiming at stabilising the mortar reactivity over time and in particular, to provide protection against the effects of humidity during storage. Dr. Lionel Raynaud from Kerneos presents this technology at the European Coatings Conference "Construction Chemicals" on 14 December in Berlin, Germany. In his presentation he will focus on the improved dimensional stability that this technology confers to mortars. The porosity of the materials, nature, quantity and morphology of hydrates obtained with the functionalised CAC have been studied and compared with non functionalised CAC. The results obtained clearly exhibit a greater robustness of size variation criteria over time by using this calcium aluminate technology. This contributes, along with the better stabilisation of the setting time kinetics, to improve preservation of initial dry mix mortar properties during storage.
