Momentive Performance Materials has expanded its portfolio of high performance hardcoat systems with the introduction of the AS4700/SHP470 FT2050 weatherable silicone hardcoat and the PHC587C primerless thermal hardcoat. The hardcoat is ultraweatherable thermal for black and tinted polycarbonate. It offers good weathering performance combined with high abrasion performance and superior chemical resistance. The system’s patented ultraviolet (UV) radiation absorber technology offers photo stability, and its strongly networked siloxane resin provides high abrasion resistance. The system has been approved by leading global original equipment manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers for use in protecting exterior black and transparent automotive parts. It is also an excellent candidate to consider for architectural glazing. The primerless thermal hardcoat offers a adhesion promoter technology incorporated into the siloxane resin matrix and patented UV absorber technology. This can enable good outdoor performance and primerless adhesion. The new hardcoat has been approved by the Economic Commission of Europe (ECE) and Automotive Manufacturers Equipment Compliance Agency (AMECA) for use in automotive headlamps. It is also an excellent candidate to consider for other applications with molded and extruded parts.
