How do you communicate?

Friday, 20 October 2017 | Posted by: Kirsten Wrede, European Coatings Journal

Talking to an internationally active coatings manufacturer, the topic communication has recently come up. What are the typical means of communication between formulator, raw material supplier, salespeople and end-users, but also among employees?

This subject emerged, when I noticed on-site how naturally Skype was used as modern means of exchange. In order to at least see a colleague, who works abroad or farther away and who you don’t meet very often, on the screen. And I learned that every now and then enquiries arrive per WhatsApp. Have modern messenger services found their way into your company, too? Or do you rather prefer the traditional phone talk and e-mail?

Well, apparently e-mail is not yet standard practice everywhere. For instance, I didn’t know that the small retailer around the corner still exists, who  places his orders per fax. Now I’m wondering when I have last held a fax in my hands or even sent one myself? How about you?

My question to you: which means of communication do you use? Maybe also others than those already mentioned? How much time is left for visits at customers’ or suppliers’ sites, and how important are they?

I think it’s really exciting, how rapidly our means of communication have developed over the last few years, and I’m curious how they will evolve in the future!
